According to the recently published IASLC/ATS/ERS International Multidisciplinary Classification of Lung Adenocarcinoma, histopathology is the "backbone" of their proposed adenocarcinoma classification, and a confident separation of atypical adenomatous hyperplasia (AAH), adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS), and minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA) from invasive adenocarcinoma requires complete sampling of the lesion.
