摘要

Theories of ethnic minority development havelargely suggested that African American parents engage in acombination of practices that include culturally distinctivesocialization as well as behaviors that are characteristic ofmore universal forms of academic socialization. However, few studies have examined how these socialization dimen-sions interact to influence the academic adjustment of Afri-can American adolescents. The current study explored theindependent and interactive roles of parental academic andculturally distinctive socialization on the academic adjust-ment of African American adolescents. The sample wascomprised 144 African American adolescents (M = 12.4;SD = 1.14; 56% female). Findings provided partial supportthat cultural and academic socialization were independentlyassociated with indicators of academic adjustment. How-ever, the interaction between these dimensions also wasassociated with youths' adjustment in the academic domain.
