摘要

The management of patients with enterocutaneous fistulae remains a considerable challenge.1 Complications associated with sepsis, malnutrition, and electrolyte abnormalities are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in these patients. Malnutrition affects up to 60% of patients with small bowel fistulae. Inadequate nutrition input due to lengthy restrictions of oral intake and interruptions in parenteral nutrition (PN), increased nutrition requirements related to wound healing and sepsis, and losses of nutrients, including electrolytes, fluid, and macronutrients, from the fistula output all contribute to malnutrition in these patients.
