Central venous catheter infections and antibiotic therapy during long-term home parenteral nutrition.

With interest I read the article by Santarpia et al on central venous catheter (CVC) infections and antibiotic therapy during long-term home parenteral nutrition (HPN). I fully agree, bolstered by over 35 years of experience at our own center, that patient and/or caregiver training remains key in the prevention of catheter-related complications in these patients. In addition to the measures described by the authors, there are 2 additional measures that can be considered to reduce such complications.
