Before the latest meeting, held at the Holiday Inn in Wembley, a western suburb of London, there had been hopes in some quarters that the ICCO would be able to report good news about its ambition to send an official mission to China. The agency wantsto find out the level of support within the Chinese confectionery industry, through contacts with the Chocolate Manufacturers' Association of China (CMAC), for a generic campaign to promote consumption and to press Beijing to join the International CocoaAgreement (ICCA). It had announced its plan for a mission comprising ICCO and member government officials and Western confectionery industry representatives at its September 2013 meeting, expressing the hope that the visit would take place during the 2013/14 cocoa year that has just ended.
