摘要

Sponge iron is being increasingly made using coal in a rotary kiln in India. In the design and operation of the kiln, aerodynamics plays an important role. So far, all adjustments of aerodynamics in sponge iron rotary kilns have been done by trial and error. An attempt was made to make a systematic study of the aerodynamics using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Analysis technique. The present paper illustrates how the optimum location of combustion air pipe, arrived at by trial and error, has been validated by CFD Analysis.
