BUNKERING AND UNLOADING LOOSE MINERAL MATERIAL (WET OR DRY) AND DRESSING PRODUCTS

Important operations supporting continuous processes are involved in bunkering coals at power stations for coking and chemical plants, and also bunkering ores and dressing products at dressing plants. Particular difficulties arise in stocking, unloading, and transportation of wet or clayey materials inclined to stick and conglomerate. Experience at many plants shows that if the bunkers and the unloading and transportation devices are designed without the fullest consideration of the physicomechanical properties of the loose material, it often takes a long period to commission the production capacity. There are palliative solutions from the use of traditional auxiliaries such as vibrators, pneumatic exciters, shields, and so on, or from lining the walls of the bunkers, chutes and so on with hydrophobic coatings, which improve the situation somewhat. However, the best solution can be obtained only if it is based on research on the flow of the particular loose material in relation to lump size, water content, density, temperature, and stickiness. Here one uses the experience of firms specializing in bunkering, storage, and transportation of loose materials, including wet ones, when one is developing unloading devices with such features. A group of firms under the general name WTW Engineering for more than 30 years has been occupied with such developments. It includes legally independent but technologically linked firms in Germany, Poland, Canada, and other countries.
