The use of lignite semicoke in reducing iron ore is considered. One promising aspect of ferrous metallurgy is the derivation of products directly from iron ore or iron-bearing waste by reduction, without the need for sintering and blast-furnace processes. This implies gas-phase or solid-phase reduction of iron-bearing materials [1-3]. In certain conditions (relatively inexpensive materials, simplified technology, etc.), solid-phase reduction may be preferable.
