Environmental Protection: Basic Measures and their Effectiveness

The deepening environmental crisis in Ukraine is prompting both more rigorous state monitoring and a broader public awareness of ecological issues. Note that informal environmental groups often focus their attention on the coke industry. One factor intensifying the environmental impact of coke production is that most coke plants are located in industrial centers with a high population density. The extremely difficult environmental conditions in large metallurgical centers today are largely due to the slow reequipment of coke plants and, correspondingly, the slow introduction of improved technological systems.
