There are many benefits of using POGUS as an imaging modality in RLS. These include low cost, efficiency (a single provider can acquire images, analyze, and interpret findings), and effectiveness in the diagnosis and management of commonly encountered pediatric medical conditions. Furthermore, ultrasound may be used to improve diagnostic abilities and to direct scarce resources toward appropriate patients. The World Health Organization (WHO) identifies ultrasound as a safe and cost-effective imaging modality to aid in the diagnostic process.1 The 2013 Academic Emergency Medicine Consensus Conference on Global Health and Emergency Care identified ultrasound as an area rich with research opportunities.2 Ultrasound is a low-cost imaging modality with many of the same functions as radiographs, and multiple studies have demonstrated the utility of ultrasound in the acute care setting to accurately diagnose a number of pediatric conditions.
