With a population of 22,279 million in 2015 and only 39,000 authorized physicians (hospital and ambulatory), Romania faces many healthcare problems. Characterized by chronic underfunding, the Romanian healthcare system like many others is under pressure. Romania allocates only 4% of its GDP for health, thus holding the lowest position in European, rankings concerning the total expenditure on health as a percentage of gross domestic product, according to the latest data (2012) provided by Eurostat.
