The qualitative composition of the boiler residue in phthalic-anhydride production from o-xylene is investigated, along with its influence on stripping. The influence of the sodium hydroxide consumption on the quality of the phthalic anhydride has also been investigated. At ZSMK, a technology for combined processing of all the boiler residues obtained in the production of phthalic anhydride from coke-industry naphthalene and from o-xylene by stripping has been developed and introduced; existing equipment in the phthalic-anhydride shop is employed.
