A Qualitative Exploration of Emotional Inhibition:A Basic Emotions and Developmental Perspective

In recent years, emotional inhibition (EI) has come to be regarded asan important transdiagnostic concept within cognitive—behaviouraltheories/therapies. However, there is still a paucity of empiricalknowledge on understanding EI's development, maintenance andconsequences within psychopathology. It was due to this lack ofresearch that this study used an exploratory/qualitative approach toinvestigate EI. This study used a grounded theory methodology togather and analyse analogue data from 10 university students whohad scored significantly high on a measure of EI.
