Investigation of the enhancement effects of surfactants on the emission lines of antimony, arsenic, and bismuth using a three electrode Direct Current Plasma, DCP, is reported. Generally the greatest and most consistent enhancement occurred in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). Because of this, sodium sulfate was also studied for some of the elements and enhancement was also observed. This enhancement can be explained by a combination of earlier observed phenomena: effects of easily ionized elements, increased Penning ionization, thermal pinch, and increased residence time in the plasma.
