Coking battery No. 5 with chamber volume 41.6 m3 and bottom gas input was introduced into use on 30 September 1979. By 1996 there were serious defects in the lining of some of the oven chambers, which were due to deficiencies in the design of the No. 5 coking battery, the long working time, the low quality of the charge associated with difficulties in providing coal, and also various other subjective and objective factors, which have greatly reduced the throughput of the battery and produced a high level of discharges into the atmosphere. Six coking chambers have been withdrawn from use, while the 16th chamber is underloaded to 20-50 percent of the volume; and 50 fuel channels are not working.
