Coal Ranking and New Conception of the Behavior of Coals of Different Ranks in Charges during Coal Carbonization: Theory and Practice of Applications of GOST (State Standard) 25543-88 in Coal Mining, Processing, and Carbonization

The problem of ranking coals and coal blends in mining, processing, and carbonization with regard to GOST (State Standard) 25543-88 and GOST (State Standard) R (Russia) 51588-2000 was discussed by Gagarin etal. [1,2]. Much in the interpretation of these GOSTs by the authors [1,2] with regard to the ranking of coals and coal blends in coal mining, processing, and carbonization has no relation to the above GOSTs. The conclusions made by the authors [1] that the behavior of "clean" and "artificial" ("conditional" in the system of terms introduced by the authors [1]) ranks of coals consisting of the blend of coals of different ranks, including coking and thermal ranks of coals, is the same are incorrect. Let us consider the paper [1]. At the beginning of their paper, the authors state that the production of a high quality coke requires coals of individual ("clean") rather than blend ranks, definite proportions of coals of "clean" ranks in charges during coal carbonization, and the supply of a concentrate of stable quality to the carbonization process.
