There are no detailed literature data on the industrial use of the absorbing fraction to trap benzene hydrocarbons. The benzene departments of the coke plant at NTMK Joint Stock Company operate using absorbing oil produced in house. In recent years, the oil quality has considerably deteriorated in terms of distillation properties and phenol content (Table 1). Unsatisfactory tar distillation contaminates the absorbing fraction with components of the anthracene fraction (6-8 percent), leading to increase in the final temperature of oil boiling by 20-35 deg C (Table 2). The presence of high-boiling components impairs the operation of the washing department. Two-stage washing is required to reduce the phenol content in the absorbing oil to the standard value (0.5 percent), with corresponding increase in reagent costs and labor costs. Therefore, the possibility of converting the benzene department in trapping shop 2 from oil to the absorbing fraction is of interest.
