Needed Changes to Current 'Safety Regulations for Gas Systems of Metallurgical and Coke-Chemical Plants and Companies' (PB 11-401-01)

Yu.G. Shapovalov, G.A. Kotsyuba, and M.I. Alpa-tov of Giprokoks Ukraine published an article entitled "Development of safety regulations for gas systems of coke plants" in Issue no. 1, 2006, of Coke and Chemistry. They analyzed in detail the omissions and shortcomings of Ukraine's current "Safety Regulations for Gas Systems of Metallurgical Companies" (PBGChM-86), which also had been adopted by USSR Gosgortekhnad-zor (Decree no. 5 of March 18, 1986) and the USSR Ministry of Ferrous Metallurgy (Decree no. 611 of May 8,1986). In our view, this article deserves the attention of every engineer and technician involved with designing, building, and operating gas systems at Russian coke and coal-chemical producers, because the questions raised in the article also apply to Russia's current "Safety Regulations in Gas Plants of Metallurgical and Coke-Chemical Plants and Companies" (PB 11-401-01), which ignore the specific aspects and distinguishing features of the design and operation of gas systems in by-product coke plants.
