CONTROL OF INFECTIVE LARVAE OF COMMON NEMATODE PARASITES OF DOMESTIC RUMINANTS ASSESSMENT OF OVICIDAL PROPERTY OF CERTAIN FERTILIZERS

A study was undertaken to assess whether the common fertilizers like urea, ammonium sulphate, quick lime and ash in addition to being manure have any role in the control of parasitic nematodes. Faecal samples from cattle, buffalo and goat found positive for gastro-intestinal nematode infections on coprological examination were collected in sufficient quantities and were divided into five equal sub samples. Each of the sub samples was then thoroughly pulverised and then mixed with each of the fertilizers viz. urea, ammonium sulphate, quick lime and ash at different strengths, viz. 1, 2.5 and 5.0 per cent. Culturing was done following the technique described by Sathianesan and Peter (1970). One sub sample was kept as untreated control.
