Obituary

Herby was educated at Kilkenny College, Kilkenny, Ireland, and at Trinity College, Dublin, where he graduated with an honors degree in physics in 1940. Early in 1940 he joined the Admiralty Research Establishment working on the cavity magnetron at the University of Birmingham. This work was later moved to the British Thomson-Houston Company in Rugby.
