For coal blends composed of Kuznetsk coals with a caking capacity sufficient for the production of strong metallurgical coke (y >= 15 mm), the addition of a small quantity of waste plastics has a favorable effect on coke quality and the yield of byproduct chemicals. The best results are obtained with a 3 percent content of plastics in the coal blend. For coal blends with a high content of low-metamorphized coals characterized by a low value of plastic layer thickness, the addition of any amount of waste plastics has a negative effect on coke quality. In this case, the addition of a mixture of thermoplastic polymers should not be considered as a means of increasing the coking capacity of weakly caking coal blends.
