For anyone interested in 20th century architecture this book is especially valuable because although its focus is, as the title tells us, solely on Coventry it examines the underlying ethos behind the architecture and planning in great detail arid with exceptional insight and clarity. This same post war idealism of social mobility and modern living infused many of our new towns and rebuilt city centres of which Coventry was a leader in the field. The planning and rebuilding of Southampton, Plymouth, Hull, Canterbury, Bristol and Exeter were all influenced by the visionary political leadership found at Coventry.
