The Flourishing of Belgian Ornamental Tiles and Tile Panels in the Art Nouveau Period

摘要

This article is largely based on an extensive study of over one hundred Belgian manufacturers' sales catalogues of floor and wall tiles published over the years 1880-1940. For the first time, a clear insight can be given in the exact evolution of these tiles in the Art Nouveau style as presented by the most important factories in this field and in a country which took a leading role in the development of both this architectural style and in the decorative arts.
