The optimum fan operating points for theminimum total air power are determined based on thecondition that air regulators are allowed only innonfixed-quantity branches. If , however, regulatorsare allowed in nonfixed branches, there exist multipleoptimum solutions which significantly reduce the airpower. Adapting the network and its associated data ofKumar , this paper examines the solutions under thecondition that regulators are allowed in nonfixedbranches. The primary conclusion is that minimizing airpower requires that regulators be placed in nonfixedbranches as well as fixed-quantity branches.
