An IMML(Inorganic metal multi-layer) was used as a cathode in an OLES(organic light -emitting diode) to reduce the reflectance of the ITO(Indium tin oxide) and to increase the con-trast ratio. The device structure was ITO/α-NPD/Alq_3:DCJTB/Alq_3/ IMML/Al. 3 andDCJTB(4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-t-butyl-6-(1,1,7,7,-tetramethyljuloidyl-9-ethyl)-4H-pyran) as hostmaterial for red emission and red emitting guest material individually. The IMML was madeof a three different layers: a chrome layer (100 A), chrome doped with silicon oxide (Cr : SiO : 50 %: 50 %, 350 A) and a thick aluminum layer (1500 A). The aluminum layer was the actual electrode.The red OLED device with an IMML had a reflectance of 7.46 % and the reflectances of a normalOLED with and without polarizer were 4.58 %, an 46 % respectively, in the visible range from 380nm to 780 nm. The brightness of the OLED with IMML at 11 V was 1,120 cd/m~2and that of anormal OLED with polarizer was 1,175 cd/m~2.
