SEASONAL VARIATIONS IN DIFFERENT PHYSICO-CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF DAMODAR RIVER WATER IN BOKARO DISTRICT, JHARKHAND

Damodar is one of the most polluted river in this country. The river Damodar receives pollution loads from industries as well as surrounding population. The water run-off from rural settlements, cattle pans, agriculture farms etc. in the basin is likely to be toxic enough to pollute the prevailing water bodies and drainage system, run off also effects the water quality and causes environmental hazards in the Damodar basin. The People living in the basin are slowly being poised because the Damodar and tributaries are the only source of drinking water. In view of the spatial and temporal variations in the hydrochemistry of rivers, regular monitoring programs are required for reliable estimates of the water quality. Hence the main objective of this investigation is the collection of physico-chemical data of water body so that source and kind of pollution could be determined.
