摘要

Shipbuilding industry, in most of the countries, has been historically considered a strategic industry supporting both Naval & Commercial interests. India's current indigenous Naval Shipbuilding capacity lies mainly in Defence Public Sector Shipyards and few other Public and Private Shipyards. With the liberalisation of the economic policies and growing need for development, production and maintenance of Defence equipment, there is a considerable requirement for indigenous Ancillary industries to complement the efforts of defence PSUs and other Shipyards involved in construction of Warships and Auxiliary Vessels for the Indian Navy. This paper aims at reviewing the present role of Ancillary industries in Naval Shipbuilding, grey areas and a possible way ahead for their active participation and sustained growth in Shipbuilding sector.
