Phthalocyanine dyes are finding increasing applications in various fields such as chemical sensors, photobiology, polymer sciences, textiles etc. during the manufacture of Copper Phthalocyanine blue, the very highly acidic process stream coming out from the plant has been enriched with the significant amount of copper and COD. The heavy metals present in the waste water are removed as precipitates of hydroxides, sulphides or carbonates by the conventional methods. But in the case of precious metals, the recovery is very important in the economical point of view. An attempt is made to treat the Copper Phthalocyanine dye process effluent by electrochemical method using Stainless steel cathode and catalytic (PbO2/Ti and SnO2/Ti) anodes. Several operating variables such as the pH, power requirement and different catalytic anodes are explored to ascertain their respective effects on the treatment efficiency. Simultaneous recovery of Cu and removal of COD was achieved at 1Adm~(-2) and of pH 3. Among die catalyticuodes PbO_2/Ti and SNO_2/Ti, the former proved a little more effective for the removal of COD.
