Both the enantiomers of stellettadine A (1), a bisguanidinium alkaloid isolated from a marine sponge Stelletta sp. are synthesized by starting from (S)-and (R)-citronellal (2). The absolute configuration of naturally occurally occurring 1 is established as R.
