Unexpected reudtion of vanadium(IV) to vanadium(III) in the presence of the cleate ligands 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and 1,8-hydroxyquinoline (Hquin)

The structures, NMR spectra and electrochemical properties of the vanadium(III) compounds, cis[V~(III)Cl_2-(acac)(bpy)] and [V~(III)(quin)_3]·2CH_3OH, formed from [V~(IV)Cl_2(acac)_2]·0.25CH_2Cl_2 (Hacac = pentane-2,4-dione) and [V~(IV)OCl_2(thf)_2] with bpy and Hquin respectively are described as well as the structure of the catechnolate dioxovanadium(v) dimer [Et_3NH]_2[VO_2(#mu#-dtbc)]_2 (H_2dtbc = 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol)
