A newly synthesized methylviologen-bound iron porphyrin chloro(5-{4-[3-(1'-methyl-4,4'-bipyridinium)ethylcarboxyamidyl]phenyl}-10, 15,20-triphenylporphyrin)iron dichloride, efficiently catalyzes six-electron reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline, a model reaction of NO2- conversion to NH4+ by nitrite reductase.
