Epidermoid cyst (also known as sebaceous cyst, epidermal cyst, keratin cyst or epithelial cyst) derives from implantation of the epidermis or the epidermal lining of the pilo-sebaceous unit. The characteristic cheesy offensive contents consist of macerated keratin. The commonest sites are the face, neck, shoulders and chest. Sebaceous cysts occurring in the trochanteric areas are uncommon. Necrotizing ulcerative infective lesion in an epidermoid cyst is very rare. We describe a case of a necrotizing ulcerative infection in a trochanteric sebaceous cyst, which was successfully treated with soft-tissue debridement, and subsequently obtaining the wound healing by secondary intention.
