A retrospective study of patients with facial allergic contact dermatitis patch tested with the European standard series in Turkey.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is characterized by hyperactivation of systemic blood coagulation resulting in consumption of platelets and coagulation factors and possibly leading to severe bleeding. Several conditions can induce systemic activation of coagulation, including advanced solid tumour. We report one case of melanoma-associated DIC.In September 2006, a 61-year-old woman was admitted for acute haemorrhagic shock. She had been treated 22 years before for a superficial spreading melanoma in the left leg (Breslow index: 1.95 mm). One year before her admission, she had presented three subcutaneous 'in-transit' metastases which had been excised. A whole-body computed tomography (CT) scan performed in April 2006 showed no systemic extension of the disease. Three days before admission, the patient had noticed spontaneous haematomas on her legs and abdomen, and proctorrhagia, without recent history of fever, abdominal pain, trauma, drug abuse or blood infusion. Physical examination revealed apyrexia, low blood pressure and tachycardia. There were large disseminated skin haematomas. The abdomen was supple but rectal palpation showed red blood.
