Synthesis and Crystal Structure of bis(N,N'-salicylidene)-3,3'-dimethoxy-4,4'-benzidine

The crystal and molecular structures of bis(N,N'-salicylidene)-3,3'-dimethoxy-4,4'-benzidine,[CH3O(C6H3)NCC6H4OH]2 were determined by X-ray crystallography in the monoclinic system,space group C2/c,with lattice parameters a=18.013(4),b=11.729(5),c=12.420(3)A,beta=119.98(3)°,V=2272.9(4)A~3,and Z=2.The crystal structure of the title compound is built up of discrete monomeric molecules of [CH3O(C6H3)NCC6H4OH]2,having axial symmetry.
