Is use of 'feeders' demeaning to older people?

To the Editor:Care interventions that some people consider demeaning to older people are common. "Feeders" are pieces of towelling material that are placed around the neck of an older person to prevent soiling of clothing by food spillage. Feeders are commonly used in our wards. Feeders are similar to "bibs" and thus may infantilize older people. Napkins with an adherent back-ing may be a suitable alternative.
