The importance of foot care in older people with diabetes.

To the Editor: An important position statement on diabetes mellitus in older people has been published by an international group of experts in the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association? We would like to compliment the working group on their efforts to tackle the complex and costly problem of caring for this growing population. In a set of consensus statements, the special challenges faced by older people with diabetes mellitus are outlined and translated into key issues for care and future research. To our surprise, the importance of foot care in older people with diabetes is lacking in these statements.
