摘要

Over 50% of nursing home residents are incontinent of urine, resulting in increased burden of illness from psychological, physical, medical, and financial cost.1'3 Despite the large number of studies of nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment interventions, relatively little quality evidence exists to guide therapeutic decision making in incontinent nursing home residents.Clinicians and the lay public are deluged with pharmaceutical marketing and advertising activities for drugs of modest proven value. Prompted voiding and other toileting programs are effective but labor intensive and difficult to consistently implement successfully in the nursing home setting.
