Study of Full-field Mixing Effect in a Circular Micromixer

摘要

The full-field mixing efficiency in a set of passive circular micromixers with a chamber diameter of 1000 μm was inspected. These mixers were fabricated with a self-developed micromachining system. The variance in contrast of the image gray level is adopted as the measurement parameter to calculate the mixing efficiency distribution of the mixing images obtained from a high resolution digital camera. Experimental results show that the best mixing occurred while the chamber depth is within the range of 150 μm to 200 μm and the outlet diameter is roughly 200 μm. The mean mixing efficiency around the outlet can reach to a value of 80% even under the action of a low flow rate, and the best efficiency is roughly 90%. The results provide a valuable reference to the research work in the field of circular micromixer design.
