Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB) accounts for 5 to 15% of TB cases (1). TB of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is estimated to occur in 1% of all TB cases and in 12% of cases of extraintestinal TB (1), representing the sixth most frequent anatomic site of TB infection outside of the lung (2). Importantly, any portion of the GI tract from the esophagus to the anus may be involved, with the ileocecal region being the most frequent (3). This case report describes a patient with a perianal abscess that grew Mycobacterium tuberculosis and who also had cavitary lung disease.
