Systemic progression following complete cutaneous remission under bexarotene treatment for tumor-stage mycosis fungoides.

To the Editor: We read with interest the article by Bouwhuis et al1 on bexarotene treatment for late-stage mycosis fungoides (MF) and Sezary syndrome (SS). The article describes six patients in whom extracutaneous lymphoma developed after they started bexarotene treatment, even as the skin improved.A letter to the editor in response to this study2 pointed out its shortcomings-namely, a bias in patient selection and the fact that the type of lymphoma under discussion is a progressive, fatal condition to begin with.
