摘要

When one examines the management options available for hearing loss, it quickly becomes clear that while there are many types of amplification available, there are many individual differences in performance with those hearing aids. Furthermore, there are differences in performance between populations, such as younger and older listeners (e.g., Pichora-Fuller et al, 1995; Schneider et al, 2002) as well as hearing-impaired and normal-hearing listeners (e.g., Festen and Plomp, 1983, 1990; Kidd et al, 2001), that occur even when stimuli are presented at equally detectable levels (e.g., Marrone et al, 2008). These differences are particularly evident when complex stimuli and listening situations are examined.
