Of the new fluoroquinolones, levofloxacin is used the most in Italy despite its recent introduction (1998), and it appears to be at least as safe and as well tolerated as other agents in its class. The most common adverse reactions with this agent in volve the gastrointestinal tract (nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, vomiting and taste perversion) and the central nervous system (anxiety, insomnia, head ache and dizziness). No levofloxacin-related ad verse events have been reported at rates higher than 1.3%, and most of those reported were at an even lower rate.We report here the case of a young woman in whom oral administration of levofloxacin induced reversible taste perversion, blurred vision and dyspnoea.
