The authors' reply: DHEA and quality of life

Our study examined the effects of physiological dehydroepi-androsterone replacement on insulin action using the euglycae-mic hyperinsulinaemic clamp and on quality of life using a wide range of questionnaires. Brooke and Monson make several points. They state that we do not comment on baseline quality of life. In fact, this is a cross-over study and we did detailed questionnaires after placebo and after active therapy. The results on no active therapy are available to all in Table 4. We do, however, wish to apologise for our error in the same table regarding interpretation of the SF36 scores. In addition, we did also use DHEA and not DHEAS as referenced in our paper. However, neither of these unfortunate mistakes change the conclusions reached by us.
