Food for thought for Food animal veterinarians: Are we sure we're doing this right?

Like many of my cpntemporaries, I became a large animal veterinarian affiliated with production agriculture at least partially because of idealism. With an escalating population, who else would feed the world except an increasingly efficient agriculture, led by the United States? The answer to providing a stable food supply and a rising standard of living for the whole world was, ultimately, an evermore productive worldwide agriculture. And with fewer restrictions on trade, the benefits of the productivity of agriculture and the lower cost of food in the industrialized world could be freely disbursed to those less fortunate, underdeveloped areas where food is in short supply.
