摘要

The American College of Zoological Medicine (ACZM), supported by 6 allied professional veterinary organizations (the American Association of Wildlife Veterinarians, American Associations of Zoo Veterinarians, Alliance of Veterinarians for the Environment, Association of Avian Veterinarians, International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine, and Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians), convened an intensive workshop on veterinary curricula on Nov 9-12, 2000, at White Oak Plantation in Yulee, Fla. Representatives from all 31 American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited colleges of veterinary medicine in the United States and Canada joined members of the allied veterinary organizations to deliberate on recommendations to help veterinary educators effectively provide appropriate offerings in zoological medicine in veterinary curricula. The workshop benefited from the perspectives and expertise of senior academic administrators responsible for veterinary curricula, faculty involved in curricular issues, and experts in the range of activities encompassed by zoological medicine. Results of this effort produced recommendations that will facilitate the ongoing efforts of North American veterinary colleges to provide their students with knowledge and skills relative to zoological medicine believed to be necessary for them to succeed in their chosen profession.
