On September 11, 2008, a previously condemned, beheaded, adult ewe carcass and associated thoracic and abdominal organs were submitted to the Utah VeterinaryDiagnostic Laboratory-Central Utah Branch, Nephi, Utah, for examination at the request of a local meat inspector.During examination of the carcass, numerous cysts with thick (3- to 5-mm) walls and that ranged from 1 to 4 cm in diameter replaced approximately 85% of the liver and were present throughout all lung lobes (Figure 1). Cysts contained abundant clear fluid. No other important gross abnormalities were noted.
