Whether you have a picture archiving and communication system (PACS) or are shopping for one, you probably have already determined that keeping sheets and sheets of film, with their inherent material, handling, distribution, and storage costs, makes little sense. This has become even more critical in the era of computed tomo-graphic studies with 500-plus images and seemingly dwindling radiologist time to handle the growing amount of work that must be handled by our specialty. The logical extension of this observation is that shutting film production becomes a key goal for purchasers of PACSs.
