摘要

CHALLENGE: FROM FILM TO DIGITAL Worldwide, a trend has continued whereby the volume of conventional imaging has decreased, while digital imaging modalities have increased their presence and data volume. At the same time, these latter modalities have become able to scan more quickly, allowing for breath-hold techniques to be used in acquiring ever larger data sets, On one hand, these data sets can be manipulated into virtual (eg, colonoscopy), 3-D (navigating), and vascular representations; on the other hand, they need to be transported and archived, necessitating an image transport network of significant size and speed. This is leading to a totally new and more noninvasive Way in which radiologists and imaging departments participate in the diagnostic path for treating ill patients.
