What's brewing: How interventional radiologists can learn from the reinvention of starbucks

The 2013 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, which went into effect on January 1, decreases interventional radiology (IR) revenue by an estimated 3% [1]. Further declines are expected, as well as a shift in payment models from fee-for-service to bundled payments [2]. Our industry is under enormous pressure to get costs under control. Nearly every other industry has had to alter its strategies to survive under similar difficult circumstances. As our health care system undergoes unprecedented changes, there are many lessons that we can learn from how other industries have prospered despite their own unique challenges. We need not look any further for an example than the cup many of us hold every morning.
