With ongoing attention to correct coding by payers in both the public and private sectors, many radiology practices have appropriately sought expert advice to ensure the integrity of their billing operations. That advice, usually obtained from consultants and subscription newsletters, is not without cost, but the price pales in comparison with recent 7-figure settlements for radiology billing irregularities [ 1 ]. As one might predict, the quality of so-called authoritative coding advice is heterogeneous. Practices seeking guidance should carefully assess the reputation of their experts before they buy.
